Backing up P2CMS database

Forgive me if someone has already posted an answer to this, but surely people have this figured out in their workflows, so I have to ask...

What's the best way to keep a P2CMS database backed up and organized?

Reading through the stickies, it seems like there are two standard methods of ingesting and archiving a P2 card.

Method A) Copy P2 card directly to HD1, then copy the same P2 card directly to HD2. Do not copy from HD1 to HD2 in case the first transfer got messed up.

Method B) Ingest P2 card using P2CMS to your database.

I have just switched over from Method A to Method B, but have two problems:

1) My database is over 1500 clips, and P2CMS seems to be very slow and not like it if I have anything over 1000 clips.

2) How do I go about backing up this database? I'm trying to avoid using Time Machine so that my backup database is actually usable in the event of an emergency, so I have some basic sync software (Sync!Sync!Sync!) which does a 1:1 copy of the database for me onto an external drive. The problem is that this indirectly does exactly what Charlie Anderson says not to do in his Method A post (see above). (copies P2 to drive, copies from HD1 to HD2). In this way, if there was a problem with the original transfer of the clip, that clip's data is gone forever.

Problem 2 could be solved by creating a second database on the external drive, and ingesting the P2 to that 2nd database using P2CMS. But this could create inconsistencies in the tags, marking, and descriptions for each clip... Mess!

What's the ideal solution to be organized, safe, and secure?
Thanks!

Hmm... maybe I should have been more concise in my questions...

1) For the people using P2CMS to manage their P2 data, do you typically have just one large database for all of your P2s, or do you keep a seperate database for all of your projects?

2) How are people typically backing up said database?

Thanks!
