backing up--mirroed raid1 vs. 2 separate drives

hi all,

i'm new to p2 and have a question...

what is the benefit of setting up a mirrored raid1 system as opposed to backing up on one drive and then copying that footage onto a media drive that is just raid0?

my workflow keeps changing based on what i'm reading, but right now this is what i'm thinking:
use shotput to offload p2 footage onto a owc drive (backup) as well as a caldigit array (media drive).
then use raylight to import into fcp and edit.

thanks for any advice/comments.

Raid 1 does do a backup, but its not going to protect your data from things like power surges, viruses, or data corruption. It really only protects you from drive failure.

If I were you I would back up to 2 separate drives.
