backfocus problem with squeeze mode?

hello.

i'm working on a short and we ran into a problem i have never seen before.

we are using squeeze mode (i've never used this before) and we found that when you zoom in and set a nice sharp focus and then zoom all the way back out the subject will be in a fuzzy soft focus.

this was the same on 3 dvx100a's

is this just a side effect of squeeze?

also i'm using a sony 14" pl2? monitor with the 16:9 switch enabled.

not sure if their method of unsqueezing the image might be part of the problem?

it isn't all that visible in the viewfinder or lcd.

I've shot quite a few things in squeeze and never noticed a problem. It sounds like the monitor might have something to do with it. Have you looked at the footage in your NLE?

Concur with Horse Films. Never encountered that problem and the DVX is famous for, inter alia, its ability to back focus very accurately. One camera may always have a defect, but if the problem was encountered with 3 different cameras, the monitor probably has something to do with it.

It doesn't *sound* like a monitor problem.. a pixel is a pixel.

What sort of shootign conditions?
Temperature, humidity..
And what about the subject? a Major shift in brightness during the zoom maybe?
