Back up P2 to Flash Drives

With the cost of flash 16 gig flash drives for under $25 bucks- is anyone using them to back up your P2 cards? are you having any problems? I know they are pretty slow devices- is that a deal breaker?

This may solve my problems with shooting P2 when the client wants to fly home with the "tapes".

Haven't considered it; hard drives are much cheaper, faster, and a little external hard disk is just as easy for the client to fly home with. That's what I've always used.

sounds attractive, but in a day I may create 6 -7 16GB cards worth, requiring a pocketful of flash sticks. A cheap USB passport external; is a lot more convenient.

i guess that would work... ive not heard anything on the long-term performance of flash drives.

but the math simply doesnt support the approach. id say my average shoot fills 4 16 gig cards. so saving to 16gig flash drives thats $100 per shoot. and $100/64 gigs. you can buy an external 500 gig drive for $150ish
