Back out to P2?

You can "print to video" back through firewire to the card. Put the camera in MCR mode and turn the thumbnails off (and make sure it's in the same RECORDING FORMAT as your project, either 1080/60i or 720/60p).

I did it from XPress Pro 5.2.1. I would assume it'd work on any version there or later. Just try it -- you should be able to scrub the timeline and see the output on your HVX's LCD. (but it will not pass an HD signal through to a TV or monitor, so don't even worry when you don't see one).

If you can see the playback on your LCD, just press the red & gray "VCR record" buttons on the top of the camera and it'll record the incoming firewire stream to the card.

This is not an ideal solution; EDIUS does it "right" by giving you a direct export tool. And RayLight includes a P2Maker function to allow the same thing from RayLight. Avid's support for P2 is not yet as well-rounded as EDIUS or RayLight, so you (and all Avid users!) should nag them to at least match what the other NLEs can do.

Ah cool, thanks Barry! And yeah, I am loving the Avid workflow with the MXF files so far... but it could be better! Thanks for all the help!
