Back Old School!

This week, I lost my permanent job due of the incompetence of my previous boss. I didn't have time to make personnal production, or simply go out with my DVX100 to shoot the present season. But now I can and I'm glad I don't have that PSD LG error in the viewfinder! I'm preparing some mini-DV and I'm back on track! Old School Style!

What about you? Still using your DVX100?

Still using my 100a for a variety of web work. Sorry about your job loss, but you sound like you're ready to go it on your own!
The DVX is still a viable tool.
Best of luck.
Ken

Still use mine and extended it's use by recording to compact flash cards. Will continue to use as long as end product goes to DVD.

Eight years and counting, sir! I love this thing. With everyone selling theirs for next to nothing, I'm thinking about picking up another one.

still an great camera, use my dvxB all the time for personal projects, and am still amazad at the images this little machine based on 10 year old technology can produce. unfortunately not been able to use a dvx on a paid gig for some time as this is the HD age, and everyone and their dog seems to want dslr / large sensor footage. however on the rare occasion that i am allowed to use the dvx, i always seem to get positive comments from employers regarding the quality of the footage, just can't beat those cine gammas combined with good old ccd chips. even with all this new technology i still stand by the fact that it's one of the best erganomicaly designed cameras of all time, easily my favorite camera in terms of operation of the last decade, if only somebody could transplant something like the blackmagic camera into the same body design...

I still have mine and will keep it. Planning on buying a new camera too. But why get rid of it

I still make about one small videoproduction for internal use a month at the (government)company I work for with the DVX. Although I wouldn't mind upgrading to a HCM151 next year, the work I do get's a lot of positive respons.

Picked one up two weeks ago. The rental houses are dumping them off up here in Canada. Total cost for a B - $320.00. 284 hours & mint condition. Alot of people get the wrong impression about rentals. They are treated with supreme care by the renter, as thier credit card holds about $2500.00 until the camera is retuned and inspected. They are serviced well too. I also have a 90 day warranty. I have not used my DVX for quite some time and it's funny how you forget all the ins/outs of technology when you get away from it. I am happy i grabbed one at this price. I got lucky and nailed mine at the right time.

Nice! That's a steal.

I'm still shooting paying gigs with my DVX100a - mostly weddings and dance concerts. Just started shooting in squeeze mode and love it.

I've done some VFX videos with my DVX100, one in low light and the second in front of a green screen. I'm glad it's still running and out of the dust! Want to see some?

Yeah!

Nothing like old school DVX footage. I still have mine, too. But seriously, it just sits in the bag in my closet. Clients want HD, and particularly the shallow DSLR look. But I can't bring myself to part with this, too many good times on it!

I understand the clients wanting that much HD, it depends where you're living. For examples, where I live, some clients wants HD and some doesn't wan't/care/know about HD. It also depends on with who I'm working with, if the final product is in HD or SD.
But whatever the project or client, I'm so glad to have one of the best cameras of its time and still running fine!

Oh! Here's some VFX videos I've done with the DVX100 :

HELLO FELLOW DVX LOVERS!

65 year old WWII Documentary Filmmaker still using DVX since 2006 - a constantly evolving film regarding the war in North Africa 1942-43. I have strong commitments from local PBS who have stated, refusal simply for Non-HD would be a shallow excuse. Kiss my A** Hist Channel, I've done more research then they'll ever do. Stay Strong DVX Users!

Hello SLavictoire

Did you read my entire post/response to your post? Have you seen my Web Site? I'm not sure what you mean about shallow DSLR look? You ask about Clients? I have no clients. This documentary is my only documentary. As I mentioned, I have commitments from the smaller local cable companies, including local PBS. Again, as I've been told, the story is compelling, that's all that matters. I don't shoot Weddings, I don't shoot parties. This project is my life. Thanx for your interest - Mike - http://www.ww2survivorstories.com/

I'm curious, what kind of client you've got? They know how to recognize a shallow DSLR look?

A lot of corporate and music videos. Most of them don't necessarily know DSLR, especially the musicians, but they point to another video and say "make it look like that", and its almost always something shot with a 5D and super-over-the-top-shallow-DOF not really possible on the DVX alone.

Then there are the corporate clients who have done their homework, and ask specifically for a crew shooting with Canon DSLR, like the 5D or 7D.

ENIGMACODE, he was referring to me (look at the quote). I still love my DVX. But I'm not using it to make money much these days. Loads of respect to those of you that are!

Good luck on the WWII film. Starting one on Okinawa.
