B&H needs to take more holidays!

I finally have enough money saved up, and I get the dreaded B&H pop up of "We're currently not taking orders." Usually it's due to a religious observance, but this time they just aren't even open. Out of the past few times I've been there in the past couple of months, they've been closed 75% of the time. I'd think with the business they're getting they'd keep it up 24/7. Is this normal, and we just don't realize other companies do this because they don't even have the decency to tell you?

Man, thats the truth. The day I ordered my T2i, the shop that had it wanted almost $50 more for the lens I was looking at, so I figured I'll just order from B&H Right? Nope, it was easter and no one in my city sells canon lenses. I had the camera for almost two weeks before I finally got a lens.

Yeah, when I ordered my T2i they were closed for a holiday. I went with Bestbuy.com and had it in a couple of days. Though I have ordered almost everything else I have from them.

Ha! SO many times my CFA plans have been thwarted by a thought of, "Hmmm ... Chick-fil-a sounds good! I should definitely ... ah crap! Sunday!"

Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur are probably the most sacred holidays on the Jewish calendar.

They actually have hired more goyim in recent years, by a fair amount. Walk into the store and it's quite a bit different than it was a dozen or so years ago when in Brooklyn. None the less, the ownership is still going to take the same holidays they have for decades.

I applaud a company that puts family and honor (did someone say "tradition"?!) ahead of the bottom line, and for me waiting is a small inconvenience when I order from them.

lol. What I don't understand is why customers can't be informed that they can place orders, but that they'll be processed at a later time. I'll have to ask a competent halachic authority.

Ask three different competent halachic authorities and you will get five different answers.

Depending upon the rigidity of a given person's practice even the use of automated telephone or computer ordering systems to store orders until they can be dealt with post-holiday-or-sabbath might be considered unacceptable; the equipment is regarded as conceptually similar to a beast of burden and its use would represent business continuing on the sabbath even if the person is not present.

Remember that there are interpretations by which an observant practitioner may not even ask a non-practitioner to turn on a light or run an errand for them on the Sabbath (although many people this orthodox make pre-arrangements or even use electronic timers set ahead-of-time to turn things on and off).

Wow, Max, you must have eaten one of those gefilte-fish power bars for breakfast.

[...] the equipment is regarded as conceptually similar to a beast of burden[...]

Yeah, well, Mick Jagger actually tapped into Kabbalah way before Madonna.

I can't decide if the concept of a gefilte-fish-flavored power bar makes me want to laugh, cry, or hurl...
