C300: B cam for C300 Mark 2

Hello everyone,

I need a small B cam for my C300 Mark 2 and I hesitate between three cameras: XC15, 5D Mark 4 and GH5. What would you choose? Thank you very much.

5D Mark IV, especially now that it has C-Log (or will soon).

From yesterday's press release:

"With this upgrade, the EOS 5D Mark IV can achieve a cinematic look similar to what can be achieved using Cinema EOS cameras, allowing it to serve as a second camera on a Cinema EOS shoot or to stand alone as a cinema camera."

I'm also wondering the same thing. Spec and functionality wise I'd rather own a GH5, but I don't suppose anyone has experimented with matching footage yet? Also I assume log simply means Clog1?

I take "C-Log" in the 5D as just a custom-made Canon Log for this camera.

If they had any variation, they would have mentioned it.

It's either on or off like in the 1DC. IMO, when it's on, it will work to maximize the DR and latitude in the best way possible the engineers were capable of with the IV's chips/processing, etc.

The XC10/15 would work for quick shots here and there, but the softness of the lens would eventually show itself, especially when using the C300 with sharp glass.

I've seen some CA in the lens and the noise reduction definitely hurts the resolution at high ISO's, but I've never thought of it as being soft.

Here's an event I shot with the C300MKII and XC10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFVxNo3KLGc&t=2153s

They can match incredibly well. The XC10 is sharp in 1080 & 4K. The event above was captured in 1080.

The only downside to the XC10/15 is that it needs a to be properly lit for. I don't like pushing it past 800iso. Other than that having the built in lens, built in ND, form factor, and canon color science is more worth it.
