Awesome war doc shot on 5D

Great documenting. I clicked because it was 5D and forgot all about the technical stuff 5 minutes in.

couldn't finish.

its subjective i know, but i can't look at soldiers anymore without getting sick.

The footage is great, was lookin for jelly but just couldn't take it a minute and a half into it.

5D rules period , it 's kicking a lamas ass over and over again .
The voiceover didn't do it for me .They should 've asked somebodyelse to read it .

That's some amazing coverage by Danfung Dennis... The handheld was pretty skew-free; I'd imagine a lot of the footage was run through VDub's DeShaker or the like.

How did you manage to film in this situation?

You just stay quite low and focus on working the camera. ... I am using a new camera called the Cannon [EOS] 5D Mark II, shoots full HD video. I've custom built it so I can rig it onto a steady cam-like device, so that when I am running it will shoot a very smooth, steady picture.

It's a bit tricky because [the Marines are] running, you're running, you're wearing huge amount of equipment, and at the same time you're trying to stay very level and very steady. So it took a lot of practice. I believe I am the first to be using this set up in this situation.

I think more and more docs will be filmed like this because all you need is this camera, your own laptop and some editing skills, and you can put together your own documentary.

Regrdless of the politics and stances that one might take on this whole "war" situation....that footage was freaking compelling.

I would feel retarded to even try to look for flaws or any technicalities...when you see stuff like that it really puts your life into perspective...

That vimeo video on his front page is awesome, really great stuff. I love those night shots... yes there is grain, and it might partially be due to the vimeo compression, but even so those shots really put you right in the action, and im sure he had his aperture wide open for those, so it looks even more cinematic.

It's awesome to see some good photojournalists taking advantage of the VDSLR's, and its equally awesome that he can use it to shoot so beautifully.

This is why I love these cameras. Let's make movies. Go and film amazing things, no matter the subject matter, no matter the lack of crew or equipment.

Loved it.
