"AWAKE" production nearing an end, grabs for you all.

Some of you may remember a film that I have been working on since november. The film is entitled Awake, and is part of my final project for my BFA. I have been shooting this film on weekends when ever the actors were available. IT has been tough but we will be shooting the final scene tommorow.
Here are some grabs for everyone

Please let me know what you think. This has been a long time running, and I have been editing the whole way through, making little changes here and there. After tommorow, I will be working with my composer to finish the music, sound effects and some ADR.

Enjoy.

Amazing work Scharky. Good-luck with it. Make-up on second to last is super. Also like the DOF on some of the shots. You have a nice overall tone to the work, slightly unerving.

How were you able to do that much color-correcting without getting blocky artifacts? I'm assuming it was all done in post... or were you using filters while shooting? If it was done in post, could you show us some grabs before and after color correcting? That would be great.

Looks wonderful! Let us know when we can see the finished product.

Well, I didn't work uncompressed, but I was very carefull about the color corrections that I made. I have found that layering color corrections and then blending layers holds up much better than just normal color corrections. For example, I will duplicate tracks, on the upper track I will adjust curves, levels and other things, and then adjust the opacity of the track so that the bottom one bleeds through. These corrections tend to take longer to render, however, they do not break up nearly as quickly as standard corrections will with DV. Here is an uncorrected grab. The lighting conditions were really harsh that day, and I had to work with available lights and reflectors. I picked this grab because I feel it is one of the uglier uncorrected grabs. You can see the corrected grab in at the link above.

stunned ... such a deep liquid feel ... organic yet other.

thanks for breaking down the basics of how you achieved this also.

nicely done.

fine work indeed!

i've got a question about "uncompressed". When shooting dv it compresses 5:1 right? does it throw the rest of the data out? if you "uncompress" do you get data back? how does rendering uncompressed bring any quality back?

Looks great. You pulled off some great CC! I especially like the ones with the main character in red, with everything else desaturated. I can't wait to see the finished project.

Question for you, how did you pull off the lookdown.jpg with the quick moving BG elements and the normal paced main character? (At least that is what I'm assuming, since it is a still pic I could be wrong.)

Well, I just got back from our final shoot. It went really well, and I am capturing it as we speek.
First, thank you for all the great comments.
To answer a few questions:
I will post a link to a prescreener as soon as i can. I still have a lot of editing to do. Since i will be entering this in various film festivals I will not post a direct link, but I will let everyone email me who wants to view it, and I will send a private link.

Well, I guess that is all the questions right now, if you have more feel free to ask. I be sure to post some grabs from todays shoot, which I think is the most visually stunning shot in the whole movie.
The look down jpg. was actually done with a green screen.

Ok, I have updated the photo page with 4 grabs from todays shoot. This was definatly the most fun to shoot, as we had a great looking set, and really great makeup. The new jpges are called

Looks awsome

I agree with everyone. Your grabs look great. I was especially impressed by the bench image. It really looks like it belongs in a major motion picture. Did you do the layering you explained with this shot as well? Did you use a filter in magic bullet? What is the basic plot of the movie?

Thanks -Kevin

Scharky, I tested this CC with layers some weeks ago and it really works. One thing I didn´t understand: one layer has the original footage and the other layer has the footage that will have curves and levels altered, right? What about the color adjustments and diffusion filters you applied? They were in a third layer or in the second one?
