C100: Avoiding Flickering/Waves

Hi guys,

I'll keep this short. I'm working on a documentary in Israel and Palestine, where the electrical frequency is 50 Hz. I'm getting some unpleasant waves in my footage when filming under fluorescents... currently shooting 24P with a 1/48 shutter.

If you could offer some advice on settings to avoid these "waves" I'd really appreciate it. Or is this the best I can do?
I can't shoot at 25 fps or 1/50... my C100 was bought from the USA.

Best wishes,
Nehemiah

I thought the C100 had PAL and NTSC frame rates? Of course unless you're only going to the web shooting 50i/25p for the US is going to get you a whole new set of problems. I had the same issue, "waves" shooting NTSC under old PAL fluoro lighting in a courtroom, tried the deflicker filter in Avisynth, but finally decided had to live with it.

You can change to PAL frame rates, shoot at 25p/50i then (having remembered to swap back to 24/60 when you're done :)) conform the footage back to 24p in your NLE. Most people won't notice a 4% change in speed.

Thanks guys.

I wasn't aware that I could shoot in 25P on the C100. When I cycle through frame rates on the Ninja 2 and the C100 (when connected) there's only 23.98, 29.97 and 59.94i listed...

You ned to change the System Frequency to 50hz in the bottom menu (the wrench). Once you do that, 25PF and 50i become available.

Thanks for writing!
I can't... 1/48 jumps right to 1/60.

Adjust the shutter increments to 1/3 (IIRC) and try it again. It worked for me a few weeks ago in Greece. I was shooting at 29.97fps but I suspect adjusting the increments will give you a 1/50 option that will fix the 50Hz flicker.
