AVID Xpress + Mac workflow

This has likely been covered to death but I can't find it. We're putting together a field kit - can anyone confirm for us that this absolutely will work:

HVX200 outputting 720p to a Mac Powerbook 1.67 G4, Firewire 800 in. Capturing with AVID XPress Pro HD (ie, not FCP) to a Raid 1 array connected via Firewire 800 through an adaptor in the PMCIA slot of the Powerbook.

The above looks like it works fine if you capture with FCP. But, I'm getting mixed info with Xpress Pro in the loop.

We don't need to edit the footage with the laptop; we just want to capture the media to bring back to an AVID system in the office running on a Mac.

Any info you can share would be much appreciated. Thx!

Capturing the P2 information through a Mac onto a firewire drive works fine. However, getting it into the Xpress Pro HD software is another story. I have yet to be able to do so. I'm searchng the forum for an answer.

Well, the bad news is...

There appears to be bug. When you copy files from, say a Firestore 100 to another drive, the files are supposed to show up in MediaTools when you copy or drag them into a folder named Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 and so forth. Issue is that the software doesn't recognize all of the clips. I have discussed with Avid poeple on their forum and they left me with the "trying to replciate your problem" answer two weeks ago. Well, I went to another machine and replciated the problem in about 20 minutes! There's an update, 5.5.3, but still the same problem. I haven't tried editing from the Firestore (not practical for me). I feel your pain.
