AVC HD Audio Mixed down to Stereo in FCP

So even though I am running 2 mics into the camera one for interviewer and the for interviewee, we have to suffer through this stereo mix down BS? Makes it really hard to separate tracks when cutting.

Is there some sort of work around for this issue?

Select the clips in the timeline and hit option L. unlinks stereo pair.

You can also setup sequences from the start to no longer use ganged channels.

Sequence Settings -> Audio Settings Box on "General" Tab -> Config: Discrete Channels (instead of Channel Grouped or Stereo Downmix)
(audio channels will be discrete by default and can be ganged or linked as required)

I tried this and the clips still come in linked.

Clips will still come in linked (the idea there is to keep media together), but the pan/level controls won't be ganged/linked.

No you were right to question it... I don't think my first post made that clear regarding ganged attributes (volume/pan) vs. linked as actual media clips... so thanks back to you.
