Avatar - James Cameron Returns! (Spoilers in thread, obviously!)

Well, as long as the participants are in scale with one another...

It's a lot more intimate than you might expect. Think sex combined with tsahaylu...

Is it tasteful? I can imagine their tail things intertwining... that was something that put off my wife when we first watched the film... she felt like the "connection" was really sexual... which made her uncomfortable (having a sexual connection with a tree or a horse-like beast)

Well, at least it prepared her for marriage!...(sorry, couldn't resist).

*shrug* there's a quasi-sexual dimension to riding a horse. The only thing that would put me off tsahaylu with one would be a fear of waking in the wee hours with an insatiable hunger for alfalfa...

Actually it was AFTER we were married :P

Hm. I don't see the quasi-sexual dimension to riding a horse (I have ridden one by the way)...

I just didn't know if you had any more insight into that, since you were behind the scenes.

I guess I'll go see it now and in IMAX, August 27th, got my calendar marked. I wonder if the studio is charging more now because it has 8 extra minutes? Anyone? :)

Well, diff'rent strokes. So to speak.

No more so than anyone else, really. That was in an earlier draft of the script and IIRC only got excluded during editing. I suspect that (a) it was protection of PG-ness (although I'd argue that depicting something that doesn't even exist in known biology is hardly risque, much less pornographic) and (b) there might have been a little concern that the idea would be *too* alien for some viewers.

Sooner or later Jim will expound on the subject somewhere, if he hasn't already.

Well damn. This is going to be expensive.

We don't have 3D (let alone IMAX) here in Juneau, Alaska. So it's evidently not coming to town.
Closest 3D and (fake) IMAX theaters are in Anchorage; 2 hour flight. $360 round trip for the weekend of August 27th.

And I'm flying back from Europe through Seattle on August 24th. I'd even arranged my ticket so I'd have 8 hours in Seattle, plenty of time. I was sure "August" meant before the 24th.

Time to call Expedia and extend my vacation by a few days I guess. My wife is going to kill me.

And Tsahaylu != Sex. (Tsahalyu == "The bond" [direct neural connection].) It's merely the joining of Queues for a direct neural & emotional connection.
Sex (for reproductive reasons), according to Cameron, is similar to how humans mate. (And not depicted in the movie.)

What I was describing was tsahaylu in combination with sex, which is part of the bonding that makes Na'vi mates, mates for life.

Basically what originally would have been on-screen between "I am yours forever, Jake" and the cut to Quaritch's attack force marshaling and lifting off to attack Home Tree.

Well, there's that whole bit with destroying Utral Aymokriyä in there too. But yeah, the movie doesn't show everything involved in Muntxa. ;)
