Avatar - James Cameron Returns! (Spoilers in thread, obviously!)

It's pretty saturated on my TV. But I don't think I've ever actually calibrated it.

Pandora is pretty bright anyway. The "darker" scenes are suitably desaturated.

Overall it looks GREAT in on BD. I couldn't spot a single compression artifact.

I also agree that the full screen 16:9 is very very nice.

- Mikko ... is very tired today. Again. :)

I really am not noticing a difference...In the store most TV sets come with their contrast and color jacked up to ridiculous levels. They usually come that way out of the box too. A lot of lucasfilm and pixar dvd's come with a THX optimizer so if you have one of their discs I suggest running that to optimize your picture. They supposedly did different color timings for all versions of Avatar.

It looks exactly like I thought it would look in 2D. Disneyish. The animation is well overrated. District 9 works better as a 2D movie with animation compared to this. Bought the BD just to see what the fuss was all about on the "superbit" transfer". Still think everyone should avoid buying this and get the 3D version of the film.

The 3D version isn't coming until next year... I'm actually liking the film more in 2D believe it or not. It's almost like I can see more of the image because my focus is not forced to a certain spot on the screen...I'm chalking it up to differences in display quality. When you go to a theatre you're guaranteed a somewhat uniform quality to the presentation. At home it's all over the map depending on on how good your TV set is, the contrast ratio, whether or not it's properly calibrated (which most people don't know how to do), the size of the image, etc...

You shoulda seen the pimpage at the Ralph's near my office, this morning. Huge blindingly colorful cutout standee displays, blue-frosted cupcakes (!) and blue sheet cakes with stills from the movie printed on them...

...and no Blu-Rays, just DVDs. Thanks, guys. I guess I'll just sit and watch the cupcakes.

Rise! RISE!

Rise from the dead, oh necro'd thread, and stalk the living!

BwaHAHAHAHAHA!

Really, though, we saw this coming, somewhere twenty or thirty pages back...

...pretty sure I know what the newly-inserted footage will be, too. Stuff we were disappointed not to see, in the original theatrical cut.
