Avatar - James Cameron Returns! (Spoilers in thread, obviously!)

From the interview I linked above:

Sounds like he intended 16:9 on this one.

- Mikko

Hmmm, that's interesting. Seems he changed his mind since the interview I read about it (which was back in October sometime).

Well...if you're watching it on a tv screen the odds are that you're not watching it as the director intended, regardless of aspect ratio...

Fair point, but a director's intent isn't "all or nothing". The goal in any home theater (imho) is mimicking a theater as much as possible within reason.

So who is planning on buying Avatar when it hits on the 22nd?

I'm gonna pick up that Blu-ray + DVD combo pack. Great idea to bundle a standard DVD version in with the blu version. So much more useful than a digital copy, since anyone can just rip the DVD to their computer and transfer to their iPhone, iPod, iPad, or Zune.

Maybe we should all pitch in and buy a copy for Chamber005?

And make him watch it like this--

Me me me me!

So I finally saw this in 3D in Vegas this week (Went straight to the last theater in Vegas that has it in 3D from the Panasonic Press Conference on Sunday).

WOW.

That's about all I can say about it.

Amazing stuff. No wonder everyone and their dog was pushing 3D at NAB. Not that Avatar was first by any means, but with 3D like that, I can see how it pushed the industry in that direction so hard.

I was planning on going to see it in 3D another time today before my evening flight to Seattle (I fly on up to Juneau tomorrow morning) ... until I caught wind of a special limited re-release in IMAX this weekend, that includes Seattle!

So now I have an afternoon flight to Seattle, and tickets bought online for an 11:40pm IMAX viewing I thought I'd never get the chance to see.

My 7:45am flight tomorrow is going to suck, but I don't care.

Driving past the Staples Center last night I saw some sort of ad for what looks like Jim + Cast coming to some sort of Avatar-related live event.

We ought to take up a collection and buy Chamber a ticket for that. He can tell Jim what he thought of the movie, face-to-face!

...and you, sir, are the kind of person we like to make movies for.

Best looking blu-ray I have ever seen. Bar none. Stunning in my home theater. I love that it's 16x9 as it fills up my entire screen.
