Automated timesaver idea

I'm not a programmer, so I'm not sure if this can be done. Using the Automator program in OSX, is it possible to make a workflow that could simplify the P2 import process as well as flip M2 clips and output to quicktime files? The programs that would be used would be OSX and Final Cut Pro.

Things I would like to see happen:

1. Copy P2 data to Hardrive on P2 insertion.
2. Import into FCP.
3. Double flip or rotate clips
4. Export clips as quicktime files.
5. close FCP (and maybe delete FCP setting with FCP Rescue)

Again, I am not a programmer, and I understand that this is probably a lot more complicated than it seems. I just wanted to see if something like this was possible.
 
You’re not alone. A lot of us would like to automate this work flow. But it can’t be done -- yet. Not until Apple makes Final Cut scriptable.

You can’t tell FCP to import MXF in lo-res. And you can’t tell it to export at all, except manually. The hooks for Applescript and Automator just aren’t there.

In another thread, someone is urging those taking Apple’s customer survey to clamor for native MXF support. I disagree. I’m clamoring for scripting.
