Autofocus problem with GH1

I considered it. I just sold my copy of the GH1 which was hackable and this one which I got in two days ago was ordered in a budget several months ago and it is a recent serial number and thus not hackable. I couldn't hack it in good conscience as it is an agency camera. I'm the photographer for a state agency and we are doing more and more video casts. THis is a bummer but I have a second camera which I can order but have not yet decided on what to requisition. I'd like the new 4/3 cam but I think it will be over my $2500 budget.
That is too bad because I have simple needs in a cam compared to most of the more serious guys here but this one little detail is really something that will impact what I need to shoot.

Latecomer to this thread, but are you guys shooting in Creative Movie mode?
I think the selection of which Av/Tv/M/Creative M mode has an effect...

Has anyone found a solution to this issue yet? I'm shooting a wedding tomorrow and I was considering using kit lens since it takes place outdoors. I've never really used kit lens for anything serious before due to my preference for primes and low light. But if during the ceremony camera starts jumping from best man to the groom, I'm screwed. Follow focus systems I've tried (Redrock Micro and D-focus) are NOT usable with kit 14-140 lens because when manual focus ring is pushed inward (by the gear attachment), due to some miraculously boneheaded design it stops rotating. It literally locks on itself once you put on the drive gear.

best i've come up with is to start in AFC using the Face Recognition mode, let it lock on your subject, then switch over to MF.
