Hi,
i'm new to video cams and considering a ag-dvx100B because of the output's supposed similarity to 16mm film and the leica lens. however, i'm also wondering if it can record automatically (e.g. on a tripod after i set everything up)? don't seem to be able to find this info / maybe not looking in the right place... THANKS!!

Not sure what you mean by "automatically" - but it has full remote control via a small keypad. Would that do what you wanted?

The camera has a red button. Two, in fact: one on the grip and one on the handle. Push either one, assuming a tape is in the camera, and it will start recording. If you need to be a few feet away, it comes with a wireless remote.

The DVX also has an "auto" mode that puts all the major functions (white balance, focus, iris, etc) all in automatic mode, if that's what you meant.

If you mean anything like time lapse or interval record, you can set short durations for the camera to record but not automatically. The 100A (and only the 100A, not the 100B) can do time lapse where you et the duration time and the time between shots, and it will do it automatically. I really wish Panasonic made the 100B do the same... If you want to do a time lapse video, you need a DSLR camera.
