Auto Mode for Video

Just got my 7D and have been playing around with it - I'm new to having so many settings to play with and find that until I learn more my best still pictures come out when it's in creative auto mode. Do these same modes work for video - i.e. how can I set the shutter speed to be constant at 50 (shooting 24p) but let the camera take over all the other controls besides focus?

Just want to bang out some quick stuff and haven't learned enough about ISO etc. yet - thanks!

You set it in Shutter Priority Mode (TV mode) then you can set the shutter speed and the camera adjusts everything else to get the exposure.

Great - thanks! I assume I wouldn't really want to use this mode when shooting something I care about though...I'd want more control? In TV mode, can I still change the aperture etc. or is it totally locked off (i.e. is it only auto if I don't change it, or will it not allow me to change it at all?)

Thanks again!

If you want autoexposure but need control over shutter speed and aperture, then there is an Auto ISO setting available.

Personally, I would never work without manual shutter speed and aperture. Both are important for maintaining a consistent look. Controlling the shutter speed makes sure that the motion looks right, and controlling aperture means controlling DOF for a given lens. Just as you want the motion to look right, do you want to give-up your DOF control?

Something else to consider... The 5D had a bug in which shifting aperture caused duplicate frames in video (which looks the same as dropped frames). I don't know if the 7D fixed this, but it's worth keeping in mind, just in case...
