Auto Lighting Optimizer?

Just saw in someone's post that they turned off the auto lighting optimizer. Does that feature really effect you when your shooting in manual mode? Seems weird that they would try to 'correct' your image, as if those attached shadows were put there by mistake?

I'm new to the 7D, but I don't like the idea of a 'correction' feature being default on a manual mode. But love the camera over all.

Basically ALO lifts the luminance in shadows, causing noise.

It's a complete roach and a shot-ruiner. Learned that on my first outing on a real corporate shoot, not fun. Avoid!

I haven't had any problems with it. I've shot my last two vids with it on. No complaints here.
