Don't quote me on this but I remember on the announcement it was due to release in April of this year and it's $500 to do the operation.I see people like Joe Simon and Philip Bloom are testing C100s with the autofocus upgrade so maybe it's close to release.
That doesn't necessarily mean that the upgrade is ready for us consumers. I'd guess that Canon would upgrade their demos before making it available to us, but it's still a good sign that they're almost there.I was at a Photography event this past weekend and the Canon Rep told me that the upgrade was available now. He said that Canon told him to ship his demo back for the upgrade. Other than that he did not seem to know too much about the upgrade.
The upgrade does not swap out the sensor. It unleashes the technology that is already in it and some tweaking. The user chooses whether to use it or not.So will the upgrade change the sensor completely? Will I still be able to use it as a "cinema style" camera in addition to having full auto focus, or is it one or the other?
