Auto focus and matte box question

Hi XHA1 gurus,

am shooting a corporate today and for stupid reasons have to put on a Redrock matte box / rail system. This will block the auto focus "eye" and I suspect render it useless. I read somewhere there's a TTL auto focus as well, can I use this? Is it really bad?

I will need auto focus as the subject delivers a seminar on the move side to side and back and forth and I have no external monitor.

thx for any advice.

You have to focus the camera on the ground glass of the adapter and adjust the focus on the 35mm lens. Can't see how any auto focus will be useful here.

Oh then just use the regular auto focus. You can change the auto focus type in the camera settings I think. As long as you're shooting in 60i it shouldn't cause any major problems. I'm guessing it'll be too dark to stop down the iris, but if you can do that, it will probably make it even better.

I get what you're saying
I ran into this problem when putting on my mattebox. I didn't need to fix it though since i was just shooting at infinity, but i can imagine that you can cut the donut a little so that you can fit the laser in.
