In another thread someone asked about AE in a dark theater and others suggested using manual exposure mode.
There is a spot light mode. At first I thought it may be useful. So I experimented with it using a dark room with a small bright window.
It works slightly better than Tv mode but still overexposes the window unless I zoom the window to about 25% or more of the total view.
Worse, exposure lock and AE shift doesn't work in this mode.
Is this the state of the art? If there is an AE mode that can keep 95% (user changeable) of the picture under the zebra level, that may work in a theater setting.
The ultimate AE mode should allows user to write a program. Until that happens, I guess I'll have to revert to manual mode
