Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Rush: Does that price apply for California residents too? (tax issues)

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Being a newbie to this site and seeking to learn as much as possible before I buy a DVX, if one of these camers does break how much could I expect to pay for repairs? ( if its out of warranty) I have read some posts saying they have had at least one repair required for every DXV they purchased. Is this typical? Are the warranties offered by mack or others worth the money or should a person just take the chance and pay out the cash when it does break?

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

FYI: I just received a DVX from willoughby's. It came with the magic bullet but no DVX book.

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

I've also heard that if barrys book and dvd is not included, it's likely to be an older dvx package. It's still a new dvx but old stock.....

The MB should be in the box.  If you are a US customer, then the DVX Book will definitely be a part of the package.  I have instructed the dealers to send the customers to me for those that they had in stock at the beginning of the promo.

Point being, if you get the camera and all it has is MB, send me a private message for further instructions.

Best,

Jan

Panasonic warranty is one year parts and labor.  I am not a believer in extended warranties.  Every one I have purchased, I have never used.  Cost of the repair is too variable so I can't comment on that. My suggestion, buy a couple of need filters instead of extended warranty.  Just make sure you buy a US unit.

Best,

Jan

I don't think a BRAND NEW one is likely to break, even if it does u have a FULL YEAR coverage.

welcome to the board

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

I wouldn't buy from any of them. However, if you had to go with one of those three, at least Willoughby's is authorized.

I know you're pushing authorized dealers, but if I can get a US model with US warranty for cheaper, as a broke, hardworking, part-time filmmaker, I gotta go where I can save the money.  Buydig.com [which has got mixed reviews on this site] is offering the dvx with software, book and rebate for a final price of $2799 [after rebate]. According to your guidelines, this should be a US model.  Is it possible for me to get a camera packaged with software and book that isn't under US warranty?  Is there anyway I can check this so I can send it back if I need too?

Has anyone else dealt with buydig.com and this offer in the past month or so?

Many thanks to all on this site.  This place is awsome! Glad I found it.

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

I'm pretty sure the question to ask is "What kind of warranty does this come with"

If they say "Panasonic backed, or authorized" warranty, you're probably good.

If they say "a US warranty" "a USA warranty" or "an international warranty" then it doesn't mean squat.

I got called on this right before i bought my dvx with another company.

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Yeah, that was the one thing that was bothering me. I haven't called yet, but their website says its a "Full Manufacturers USA Warranty"  It looks a whole lot more legit than anything else I've seen on the internet, except for the 'authorized' dealers ... I had a scare last week with expresscameras.com, and became so paronoid I was checking my bank balance every twenty minutes praying it still had money in it.  I don't really want to go through with it again.

If these guys are scamming, they sure do their research.

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Well, keep in mind that with some of those "scam shop" places, they will flat out lie to you, so even asking them is no guarantee. When you deal with liars and thieves, don't be surprised if they lie and steal from you. We've even had cases of those shops coming on here, impersonating a user, and offering glowing recommendations of their favorite scam shop (including bald-faced lies). So, buyer beware.

Now, I'm not saying buydig is in that same category -- I don't think I've heard anyone say anything bad about buydig, they have a lot of happy customers. They are not an authorized seller, but that in and of itself doesn't make them a bad dealer!

Before committing to buy from an un-authorized dealer, give Rush at EVS a call and see if he can match the invoice price, dollar-for-dollar. And don't buy any "accessories" from the un-authorized dealer, like filters and batteries and cases, those are usually low-value products at greatly inflated prices which they use to make up the "apparent" lower price of the camera in the first place. Try to buy just the camera, by itself, in a new, factory-sealed box, with warranty, rebate, MB, and Book/DVD. Whatever final price they quote you, give Rush a call and see if he can match it.

If not, then it really doesn't make a lot of sense how they can do it -- if the camera comes with the book/dvd, it's very likely a genuine US model sourced from a US authorized reseller, and as such it makes no sense how someplace can sell a product that they bought from an authorized reseller for less than an authorized reseller can sell it for...

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Hi,

Everything that Barry says is true, many of these guys lie. As an example Broadway Photo is offering the camera at a great price, you have to buy something lse or the camera just won't ship. They are showing that you can qualfy for the rebate. I have one customer who fell for it, was reassured that it was a US unit and sure enough he got the camera home and there is not MB, no Book and he doesn't qualify for the rebate. In the state of New York, that is fraud. But the poor customer has to go through the process.

There is another one called US1camera, same deal. He has three customers coming back for their money. Gray market is a dirty business.

Now back to Buydig. I have seen where they most definitely have purchsed through our distribution and they ship US product, but I have also see gray come out of there. Just make it a condition of the sale, record your conversation, if they seem weasle like.

Anyhow I hope that helps,

Jan

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

I haven't heard back from Rush yet, but when I do I'm going with him.  An extra 300 bucks is worth peace of mind for the next year...

If you're out there Rush, check you're email!

Thanks for all the advice and info guys!

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Hi All,

As a newbie to the DVX world, (I just got my camera last week) I must say, it was a total pleasure to deal with Rush at EVS...I was unsure about getting my gear from the States (I live in Northern Ontario, Canada) but was reassured that I wouldn't have a problem getting my camera serviced should it ever be required...it'll have to be serviced in the States, but that's OK...the difference in prices makes it even...

Anyhow, the main purpose of my post was to thank Rush for his excellent service and to reassure anyone that's still not sure if they want to deal with him that if you do, you won't regret it!!!

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Thanks Gerry! My pleasure ;D

Sorry Slomocean, I have been laid up in bed from some nasty flu bug for two days, and i am working from home today, just trying to catch up. I have responded to your email late yesterday, so you should have a message in your inbox! :D

Thanks everyone for supporting EVS, can't tell you how much it means to us. :) Hopefully we will always be around to support you as well.

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Check resellerratings.com, you'll quickly discover how that website does "business".

No it's not serious.

Buydig.

Buydig.

Barry I didn't know that Buydig wasn't authorized but I got warranties from them, (From Vanguard) as well as a rebate form for $300 to send to Panasonic. They also included your DVX book and DVD in my last camera box. (I'm watching it right now) So far I've had no problems with either DVX I bought from them, but I haven’t really started shooting with them much either, though I will be doing that this week. (I just got the three light 1600 kit from Rostronics.)

I also have bought a bunch of mics and related equipment from EVS and had good service from them.
