Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Profeel has the DVX listed at $3013.00 and it comes with MB Editors Addition which sales for $299.00. :)

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Profeel
appears to be an UNAUTHORIZED Panasonic dealer.

also any word on when will they start shipping the DVX/serious magic bundle?

I already got the MB so I don't really care about it

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

looking for some advice here. I'm finally buying a DVX100a and I've been reading here for a while. Do all these authorized dealers offer a discount for being a dvxuser member? If Willoubys is so shady than why are they an authorized dealer, and can I trust them to buy my dvx?
Also I kind of have issue with the prevolent attitude here that it's ALWAYs worth the added couple hundred bucks for that sweet voice on the other end of the line or whatever service perks. Sure, I need to know that I'm going to get the thing and get the warranty, but beyond that I'll take any discount I can get; I could care less about a grouchy attitude. I'm buying this camera because I can no longer get camera work without owning and using my own 3-chip camera since nowadays every stary eyed film student with rich folks has one and is running around calling themself a DP. I live cheaply and this is one of the most expensive purchases I will ever have made so every price break makes a huge difference. I do good work, but I'm not rich and I can't afford to pay an extra 100-200 bucks to hear a guy say please and thank you for like 5 minutes on the phone, thats just another part of good business practice that the consumer shouldn't be paying through the teeth for. Anyway, I hope I haven't been too gruff, I just find it hard to relate to people here who seem to toss money terms around like buying and selling 3500.00 cameras is like buying a snickers bar on the way to work.
I'm thinking I'll go with willoughbys since it seems cheapest, and I'd like a legit warranty, but any advice from anyone would be appreciated. What's the softwre that comes with it, anyway, is it editing stuff and if so is it really worth the extra cost for someone using final Cut Pro already and not wanting to switch to something cheaper? Thanks folks

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Hi Ren,

The software that comes with the camera is the Magic Bullet for editors Software and yes it is a pretty cool editing tool. If the DVX does not have the software, it is likely you don't have a US unit, which means that you do not have a US Panasonic Warranty. The store may sell you a warranty, but I can assure you that it is not the same thing.

We are not talking about just nicities here, we are talking about when you have a problem and having someone interested in helping you resolve that problem. That is where authorized dealers and having a US warranty comes into play.

Anything under $3,200 US is a little suspect and there may well be provisos that come with a lower price, like you have to buy it in this configuration. those configurations can be very low quality filters, lenses and flimsy soft cases.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Thanks Barry.  Hi jkc123, please send me an email and let me what you need, even if it's just the camera.  I will give it my best shot.  Just as a side note, B&H, the biggest baddest and most reputable dealer on the East coast, has never lowered their DVX price below $3499.  That kind of gives you an idea where a dealer's price ought to be for the camera.  EVS's advertised price is down to $3399, and the DVXuser price is $100 lower than that, and until Dec.31st, you get free freight.  Essentially, we profit $20 from the sale of a camera, and "hope" that through excellent service, a customer returns and buys accessories and tape, which keep our company alive.  It is the difference between "hoping" and "forcing" a customer that distinguishes us from other dealers.  ;) We don't call people back after they order a camera online, and "force" them to buy a bigger kit with tons of cheap crap for $1600, or else the camera is "backordered for 6 weeks".  With EVS, if you want just the camera, that's what you get.  Fair price, good service, and we "hope" that you come back for more goodies.  ;D  That has always been the creed I was taught at EVS by the owners Cody and Shawn, and i think it will be the key to EVS's survival in a brutal market.  :D[/quote]

Well, if that is the case, then I look forward to buying from you all in the future. If I owned your company, I would have the same policy. When I upgrade in the future or just need some extra expendables and such, you will be my "go to" store!

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

The place I would suggest buying your camera is Abel Cine Tech. I have dealt with them for years. They are a professional film and video place that has helped panasonic get to where they are with digital cameras. Not only will you get a great price but they will back what they sell better than any retailer. And they have pro accessories.

I do agree with Walter, the folks at AbelCine are great and very knowledgeable about the industry. One of my personal favorites.

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

This whole Gray market New York and New Jersey photo sellers is really bizzar. I bought a DVX 100A from one of these outfits. They had it advertised for $2600. As I'm ordering he says to me "to be honest with you that is the overseas version. I can sell you the US version for $3000 so I bought it. You know the drill by now, no warranty, no magic bullets. So I call Panasonic and tell them I want to make sure this is a US version and ask to read off the serial numbers. She doesn't really way to hear the serial numbers but just wants to know the model number. I tell her it's the dvx100a. She says if I bought here in the US and have proof of purchase I won't have a problem. I ask her to send me a letter stating that I will have a US warranty. She says she will make a report and gives me a incident report number which is supposed to make sure I don't have any problems if I need repairs. As it turns out the camera has audio playback problem so I am in the process of shipping it back. I fully expect after all I have read that I will end up having to deal with the credit card company. I will let you know if the send back goes ugly. In the old days when I purchase a lot of still photography gear mail order. B & H used to be near the bottom of the pack, now they are like kings.

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Hi Michael,

I know it is not me that you talked to as I have all of the serial numbers imported into the US on my laptop. In a manner of minutes I can tell. I you send me a private email I can tell you exactly whether you have a US unit. Please also include your model number as printed on the bottom of your viewfinder. We do track serial numbers and it is pretty easy to look them up. By looking up this info, I can tell you whether you have a US warranty.

Trust me, if there was a way to deal with gray market, as in making it illegal, I would, but unfortunately the Fegeral Government thought that it would bolster competition back in the early 70s.

Best regards,

Jan

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Don't do it Michael. Jan will send the grey market police to your home and they will not only take you camera, but your Tv and anything else electronic. There was just an article about them in the NY Times. It's a scam to sell you grey market, then take it back and sell it to someone else only to have the cycle start over again. :)

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Don't be surprised that when you deal with liars, you get lied to.

It's not the manufacturer's warranty.  It'll be a bogus in-store warranty that's only good at their particular store, but they figure that since they're based in the US, that counts as a "US warranty". And a warranty's only as good as the company that stands behind it -- so what does that say about this "warranty", when they're clearly and plainly trying to deceive you up-front about what it is?

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Note that it does not say, included Magic Bullet Software and then you will know that it is not a real US model.

Best regards,

Jan

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

How is it that Profeel is Offering Magic Bullet with the purchase of the DVX100a for $3013.95? ???

Re: Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Because they're buying MBE from another source. You're getting a gray-market, non-USA-warranted camera from them, and they're buying MBE to deceive you into thinking you're getting a Panasonic USA model.

Panasonic will be addressing this issue in another way.

Or, in contrast to Barry's idea, they are purchasing the product from a distributor, then setting the price falsely low, knowing that by the time they are finished with writing up the sale, you will have spent over $3400. So just know that somehow it is either gray market, and you will have no warranty or it isn't and then you have a warranty.

I will do this; you make the deal so that you can return it if it is not a US Model. Send me your serial number and the Model number off the bottom of the viewfinder as this is what the service guys go on, and I can tell you whether it is gray or not. If not send it back. Email off line.

All the best,

Jan
