wow. What a great link for this forum's users. Kudos for posting it Henry.
Thank you. the REAL tip-of-the-hat should go to Don Wiss who bicycles all over NYC collecting pics like these, often in some rather unpicturesque neighborghoods. He's doing us all a service.

This begs the question as to why someone in the mainstream media (like John Stossel) hasn't gone to some of these places with a cameraperson over his right shoulder and done an expose. I realize it wouldn't stop it, but it would certainly help bring awareness.

I definitely have to give a big tip-of-the-hat to Don Wiss for this. What a great consumer advocate.

One of the major magazines (I think PC magazine? I'm not sure, I'm pretty sure it was in the Ziff-Davis family) did exactly that.

Yeah, I already tossed around that idea with Jimerson, but it's not too practical for us four states away. Some of our NYC members might try it, but remember that there are apparently allegations of death threats from these folks so it's nothing to be trivial about -- if they found you had hidden cameras on you or something...

Or... It can be used in another way... Like selling bootleg DVD's that look like actual Paramount or DreamWork DVD's (but make up you're own billione dollar distributor instead for copyright reasons)... But you can still say, "Based on a True Story" because it's based on this story... The guy does some investigation on those stores... And the movie will take a long time to make and should be a feature... But... It'd be cool... lol... I live in the NY area, maybe I'll try doin it in the future...

Good memory. Do you recall where I left my sunglasses? :)

The article is here and it's from a PCWorld article published Jan 2003.
DISCLAIMER: I am quoted in the article.

I just bought my AGDVX100BP from Beach Camera, I registered with Panasonic of America and it was accepted and also I sent my request form online and by the mail for the free software and DVX Book, etc.
The check is is process, and the software too.

I've been deciding on whether to get the DVX100b or not, and regardless... I've just been wondering something.

On Newegg they have a $350 rebate form you can print out.

Now, I remember being on another site and seeing a $500 rebate form, ready to print out.

Does this mean they will only accept $350 rebate forms from Newegg or would the $500 work? The $500 is still valid in expiration date too.

I placed an order to B&H photo-video asking for a 72mm UV Protection Filter and 6 Panasonic AY-DV33PQ 33 Minute Prof DV Tape, and however they just sent me the UV filter, but none the 6 tapes. The case came in mint conditions, sealed by them (not UPS) and with no evidences of tampering. So, this means that B&H Photo failed to ship me my correct items. I tried to call them by phone but their offices where closed (6:00 pm. EST), so I sent them an e-mail explaining this situation to see if they solve this problem.
I wonder: is this the such a famous B&H reputation as a serious dealer? No, way, same sh... like the rest.!

I believe I have identified your transaction and if so, you should post a follow-up. Your order was shipped in two parcels. Our website informed you of this during the checkout process and the invoice you received with your first order indicated this too. To answer your question, YES! This is "the such a famous B&H reputation as a serious dealer."

I really apologize, and beg to B&H Photo-video excuse me for this inconvenience caused by myself. I accept was my fault not reading clearly the invoice sent by B&H, where is advised explicitly that my shipment would be in two separate boxes and with two different UPS tracking numbers.
Once again, I give all my apologies to B&H photovideo, and retract what I said on my first posting. I here declare that this people at B&H are very polite and extremely serious on their business.

Does anyone know where the cheapest place to get a DVX-100B is right now? I'm mad because I saw that Willoughby's had it for 2500 with a 500 rebate and that's gone now..

Has anyone had a good experience with Ebay?

From my understanding is that no matter what there is no $350 rebate and they are all $500. I believe there is a URL in the box that sends you to the Panasonic site to get your rebate, $500. Newegg just hasnt updated their page to reflect the increase a few months back, then again it should be expiring soon which makes you wonder whats coming up next...

I purchased a new USA model (AG-DVX100BPS) with USA warranty from BUYDIG.COM (before the recent $200 increase) & received competent, courteous & prompt service in addition to saving a bundle.

Thanks Hazard, that makes sense. I need to decide whether to get it now or later, if at all, and in this case will probably want to order before March ends.
