I have a question. I just purchased a HMC150 and was testing the audio late this evening. I am new when it comes to productions & video. I was recording a with a shotgun mic to Ch1 and a wireless lav to Ch2. For some reason the Audio was not coming in clear. There is a soft static sound; Especially with the Lava mic. My question is…. I was told to purchase an “audio box” of some sort and feed the XLR to the Box and then to the mics. In-other-words, is there a mixer or some kind of system that I can plug the mics into and then into the HMC150. I was told that this “box would clean up the humming noises and static sounds. Basically, the guy told me not to plug the mics directly into the HMC150 camera but instead purchase the “box” to be the go between so that the sound is clearer. Is that what an audio mixer is? Do you have any recommendation that I can purchase?
Also, when I take the memory card out of the camera and important the footage to my Mac Pro, will the Audio be in two separate files? One file for channel 1; the other for channel 2? OR doe it combine both channels into one audio file? I am new to the world of video production so please bare with me.
I was told that when using a single mic to record, I am supposed to use the two channels, but to set the second channel -6dB lower than the first as a safety precaution. Should a sudden and loud peak over-modulate (distort) the first channel, the second (safety) channel has a little more headroom and may avoid the clipping. So if my first channel does get distorted then I can use my second channel as a fall-back? Does that mean the HMC150 creates TWO audio files?
