I almost exclusively use the Canon in HDV mode, but for this job the client need DV 4:3. I gave the tapes to him and he took a look at them on his DV deck and a Sony M15U and reported audio problems that can best be described as digitally garbled - you can't really make out anything except for the occasional blip or squeek.
I had a similar problem with HDV tapes recorded on the Canon and played back on Sony decks / cameras - although that issue was more in the realm of dropped frames where as this is more audio specific.
Thoughts? The client is sending the tapes back and I am going to see if they play on my camera. If they do, then I will transfer them to another set of tapes via firewire connected to a deck. But I would like to avoid this problem in the future.
