Audio options for the 7d

There are better recorders out there, but with all the advantages Beebelbrox listed, and it being half the price, it's probably the one to go for.

The other very crippling point is that there is no headphone jack on the 7d for you to hear the audio while you're recording.

It's half that amount, comes with TWO XLR inputs, two onboard mics, and a mini jack input, is light enough and small to carry in your pocket, and COMES WITH a hotshoe mount that fits a DSLR or any other camera with a hotshoe.

It sounds like its made to your specs. ;)

Beeblebrox,

I just introduced a mount that will allow you to attach your audio recorder, external mic, and a wireless receiver all on top of your 7D (or any other HDSLR).
Please take a look-it could solve many mounting problems!

There's another option to recording audio that is both a 2nd system and lets you record to the 7d camera clean. This is for controlled shoots (not run and gun). It works but it's not for everyone. Requires a laptop and at least an MBOX II or MBOX Pro. I tried it and it works great.

3.) Carry out some form of tricky ipod hack that fools the AGC into not working (have seen some posts on this)

Has anyone tried this yet? I didn't see any other mention of it, but was just thinking about it. I'm guessing you would create a tone file and put it onto you're MP3 player, then connect your mic to one channel and the ipod tone track to the other channel?

I'm planning on getting the H4N, but cash flow is a bit low for a few weeks. I have a shoot this weekend and was looking for a temporary solution for the weekend.
