C100: audio meters

Loving my new C100, but don't have any audio meters in the VF or LCD. I presume somewhere in the menus I need to turn them on, but where?

If your waveform or vectorscope is turned on, it will indeed block the audio meters. If thats not it, go into the LCD/VF menu, then go into custom display 2 menu and make sure audio level is set to on.

Woohoo, got 'em. Thanks!

Here's another question: is there any way to channel the input from a single mic input to both tracks? That was a much loved capability on my Panasonic cameras.

Yes there is.

Under audio menu, it says XLR Rec Channel CH1/CH2 -> change that to just CH1 (if I remember correctly).
That way you can plug an XLR input into channel 1, and it'll record onto both audio tracks.

Edit ->
You can also choose what is fed to your headphones. CH1/CH2 (L/R), just CH1, or just CH2 (for these last two, you'll get just CH1 in both ears, or just CH2 in both ears).

The [CH1:CH2] setting actually records CH1 input to both channels. The [CH1] setting is actually the normal routing of CH1 input to record channel 1 and CH2 input to record channel 2, confusing I know! So [CH1] is actually your normal stereo record setting.

But unlike the AF100 and many other pro video cameras you cannot have the same audio duplicated on both channels with different volumes. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a feature from my AF that I terribly miss with the C100. Loved doing interviews duplicating line 2 to both channels with one channel's volume around 25% lower to avoid peaking situations. Firmware fix, Canon?!

Yes, that's a feature I'm going to miss. I would also have liked there to be dedicated switch alongside the other audio controls rather than in a menu -- no firmware fix for that one.

You can program a custom button, for instance the FF one, to change your audio inputs (CH1/CH2 varitions) while in the camera mode.

Couldn't you solve the different input in CH1 and CH2 with a simple splitter cable? Then adjust the gain to suit for each separate channel.

You are correct. The best way to deal with this is to engage the limiter. Unlike automatic gain control the limiter will not degrade the dynamics of your audio and it will keep you form clipping.
