Audio - In-camera vs. DAT?

Hi everyone,

Some time ago, I bought a DAT recorder when I was shooting 16mm, and now that I've switched to DV, I'm wondering if I should keep the DAT.

Aside from freeing the camera up from microphone cables and having the ability to record room tone or off-camera effects, are there any reasons I should use the DAT instead of the audio from the camera?

I've done the same thing and now use the D.A.T. with on Cam sound which is a redundant system. Like the condom quote in AVP, "I'd rather have it and not need it then not have it when I need it".

Thanks Doc Card! I was thinking about getting rid of the DAT in order to buy other things, but I think I'll keep it. It'll give me lots of flexibility and the ability to record a back-up, like you mentioned.

whenver you need to get hard effects or do any foley work, you will need the DAT back. You dont want to put any wear on you cam just for snagging sound effects.
