Audio Hiss HMC150

Hi Everyone,
I'm having an issue with some serious audio hiss while recording on the HMC150 using an external Sennheiser boom mic.

It sounds to me as if there is a built-in compressor/limiter on the camera that is bringing up the nasty room sound in between bits of dialogue. You can hear a clear example of this happening on this video :

(Fast-forward to 00:47 secs. and you can clearly hear the hiss/room sound in between the dialogue.)

Does anyone have a solution for this? Am I right about the compressor? If so, can I turn it off? Any help would be so greatly appreciated...We're doing another shoot tomorrow, and I'm trying to figure this out so I can try and address it in the morning.

Thanks again.

Look in the menus, it's in there - just turn off the auto gain. My camera is packed for a shoot now, but it's in the manual.

Willy, I know what you're talking about and it's not the boom. I recently acquired an HMC150 and have noticed a low-level audio "hiss" regardless of what microphone you use. In fact, I detached my microphones, turned off the built-in mic, lowered the gain to 0 and recorded dead-air and still noticed this "hiss" in playback. It's at about -60db and goes up when you turn up the audio dials on the camera even with no mics attached. If anybody knows of a way to eliminate this hiss aside from a noise reduction software in post, I'd be very grateful. I'm thinking the only other solution is to record audio through a separate audio recorder which complicates things and leaves me dissappointed with my camera purchase, despite its decent picture.

Do you get the same result on your computer. The HMC is known to have a noisy headphone playback, but is clean when listening to the footage on the computer.
