Audio Gain Hack

Hey guys,
I've just watched these audio tests on vimeo: http://www.vimeo.com/5370880

To sum it up: the winner is the JuicedLink in combination with automatic audio gain disabled in camera. As it's not possible to disable it in the GH1, I wonder if one could lower it in a similar way the Beachtek does it, by plugging a MP3 player with a loud test signal into one channel and a mono mic with a good preamp like the JuicedLink in the other.

I've tested it with this file: http://www.freesound.org/tagsViewSingle.php?id=9079
and it seems to work ok. While playing the file on one channel the noise on the other channel clearly drops. I don't have a Beachtek or Juicedlink or any other mixer, so I couldn't plug in a mic at the same time.

Is there someone with a mixer who could test this config?

Good idea but why do you need a mixer? surely 2 mono 3.5 sockets to plug mp3 player in 1 and mic in 2 then an adapter from 2 mono to 1 stereo 3.5 (which I can't find ready made but plan to make so I can plug 2 mono mics in to get stereo sound etc.) then that to mini 2.5

So I don't think you need a mixer just an adapter making up.

The audio gain thing is annoying as is the lack of being able to monitor sound via headphones.

I think you will need a mixer or preamp or whatever to gain and regulate the mic signal.

Of course everybody's needs vary -- but the more I thought about it, the more I thought that -- at least for what I'm doing, and planning to do with the camera -- lost audio could be tragic. I punted and purchased a Zoom. The cost is similar to the Beachtek box, but I feel the Zoom is a lot more versatile.
