Im am thinking about purchasing the 7D body only.
Right now i have these two lenses at my disposal
EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens that came with my Rebel XT and a
Canon EF 17-35mm F/2.8 L USM

and im thinking about purchasing the 50mm f/1.8
i still debating if i need the get the kit lens?
i primarily do interviews with decent lighting and outdoors

also if i get the H4N i would not need a microphone then correct?
thank you very much

the h4n is mainly used as a recorder. although it does have a nice set of mics on it, its still not going to be good as a lav, or boom mounted mic. unless you mount the h4n on a boom, but then that would make it tough to monitor the audio.

Yes, the mic on the H4n was not designed to be used in the same situations as a proper shotgun mic. I doubt that it will have the same sound quality and directionality as a decent shotgun mic. But you should consider getting the H4n anyway, as it's about the best value recording solution on the market. The sound quality should be better than a shotgun mic plugged straight into the camera. Remember that the camera has auto gain control, which cannot be disabled at the moment, unless you buy something like the Beachtek DXA-5D. The camera also does not allow audio monitoring at the moment, as it lacks a dedicated headphone jack.

As far as lenses go, you sound like you already have access to lenses at least as good as, or better than, the kit lens. The kit lens would really only be useful to you for the extra zoom range.
