Atomos Shogun update

Would it be possible for Atomos (or CD) to use some SSD disc space to implement few seconds cache recording? I would guess so, but did not find it mentioned as feature. That's too bad, since A7s and FS7 don't have it (A7s for sure and I've read it somewhere for FS7), but I really need it for almost all events I am filming...

Yeah. It's confusing. The note mentions new features and future updates with a list. So I'm assuming the new features added to the Shogun havent been revealed yet and he is just stating that it's upgradable too for these at a later date.

Maybe it's a new processor that is being added "Powerful Generation 2 Processor, Sata 3 @ 6Gb/s, Large FPGA"

Oh and no FS RAW support from day 1 for Shogun.

Erik....just making sure. So the Shogun, to your knowledge, does not currently have support, or a plan to support, 4K raw for the FS7?
If so...the 7Q is definitely looking more attractive.

No RAW support for FS700/FS7 (basicly the same) until today.

Here's what atomos says on their website:

Our future proof platform (Powerful Generation 2 Processor, Sata 3 @ 6Gb/s, Large FPGA with upgradability) is designed for the following in the future

12G-SDI 4K 50/60p Support
4:4:4 10bit
3D LUTs
FS700 RAW decode
Full 4K - 4096 x 2160 support

What does it mean?
It means they want to add the features to the shogun somewhere in the future.
But if they only try or succeed - nobody knows...

Only draw back with the Odyssey7Q is it uses the older HDMI v1.4. This version doesn't support 4K over 24p.

Things are moving really fast and these recorders are having a tough time keeping up. Atomos has the advantage of knowing what the cameras are outputting now while they design the Shogun around it. Convergent Design Odyssey7Q is a year old and no 4K HDMI cameras were developed yet to my knowledge. It would be great if Convergent Design can upgrade the Odyssey7Q with HDMI v2.0. That would give the Odyssey7Q some growing room for 60p.

The Q7 is definitely more attractive now, but I'm still holding out for the Atomos. The prices for Q7 "upgrades" are pretty steep.
