How much are the batteries for it? I haven't checked the other recorders, but I do hate the thought of another gizmo with proprietory batteries to keep up with.

Looks great to me. Expandable storage and a small form factor. They're supposed to make a HD-SDI version soon.

Seems to use Sony NPF 570 as a baseline, so I assume so the entire NPF series of Lithium batteries. Handy for those of us that have collected assorted NPF batteries and chargers over the years, and reasonable enough to buy for those that haven't.

Nice thing about the Ki Pro Mini, though, is the XLR inputs. Get that nice audio right along with your nice video. I wish the Ninja had that... i don't believe it does, correct?

I read it as audio in via HDMI or line in -- you wouldn't need balanced inputs for short runs anyway.

The one thing i'm on the wall about is the choice of 2.5" hard drives. i'd prefer just CF cards but i do see their point about capacity. Anyone using the ninja should be VERY cautious about which hard drive they use. my usual HDD selection process is to newegg which has the most 4 and 5 egg ratings along with the fewest 1 to 3 eggs.

though SSDs are coming down in price, can nab a 60gig for 100 these days

i'd also prefer buttons to touchscreen, but that's something i can live with

Yes, you'd go into the AF100's XLRs then HDMI to Ninja. That should carry the audio.
Oh really! I must have missed that. Sorry, this is potentially a dumb question, but does the audio quality take a hit going through HDMI?

Took a look at the Ninja brochure on their site (like I should have done in the first place) and it's looking pretty attractive. Comes with two batteries as well, they say... which is nice for those who are tallying up the accessories price list. ;)

if atomos releases a similar recorder even without hdmi but with hd sdi and eats 24psf.. then hell yeah

the advantage i see in the nano fash is the cross platform compatibility.. prores is fcp only

ProRes works on PC too - at least for playback. I wish the would have implemented Cineform though.

Personally, I like the Atmos because hard drives are worth much more to me than cards. I prefer a drive with the ability to plugin and edit from. I mean backup yes, but I like to go straight to the disk (firestore has been nice!).

With hitting the road, I will love the SD cards and AVCHD. IMO, no need for the ninja on the road unless its a slow shoot.
