What I provided wasn't an e mail from a distributor located in the UK, or from any distributor.

It came directly from the US-based public relations firm that is handling the company's announcements.

I'm hoping Atomos will upgrade the connectors on the Samurai to XLRs and BNCs, but no word so far.

Does it not use locking BNC's for the HD-SDI? Also, just to double check, does HD-SDI carry audio as well as video?.. If not I can see how the lack of XLRs for audio imputs will be an issue. Then again, could always just record the audio to the SD card and sync that up in post... no big deal nowadays with pluralize.

Because of Kurosawa's "holy" seven.... and...

...as Wikipedia says:

A ninja (忍者?) or shinobi (忍び?) was a covert agent or mercenary of feudal Japan specializing in unorthodox arts of war. The functions of the ninja included espionage, sabotage, infiltration, and assassination, as well as open combat in certain situations.[1] The ninja, using covert methods of waging war, were contrasted with the samurai, who had strict rules about honor and combat.[2]

Atomos has recently posted pictures of both the Ninja and Samurai on their site www.atomos.com As you can see the Ninja used HDMI and mini connectors. At least the Samurai will be using BNC HD-SDI connectors although not XLRs. It remains to be seen whether the 5" monitor will be able to be used for focusing purposes.

I have seen and held one and watched it input HDMI at an electronics show in London

Its a nicely made unit, it feels expensive the screen is very intuitive (touch screen) play, record etc.. I dont think you could use the screen for focusing but just as a courtesy monitor, wondering if a bracket could be made, allowing the AF101 side handle to be replaced by an ATMOS unit

I still haven't seen any reports of a regular retail customer taking delivery of one or indeed any reviews of production units. Atomos have done a great PR job & I am sure that the Ninja will be a great tool once it actually arrives but excuse my scepticism regarding actual shipments as I have been around too long to believe every press release I read.

No need for scepticism. The actual shipments are taking place now. Units are being sent from distributors to resellers, and soon after that they will then be in the hands of the first customers.

but I don't know that I would want to be the first guy on the block getting one. A new and disruptive product like this is likely to have some growing and teething pains.

I'm that first guy on the block...just got an email from the dealer I bought it from...should be getting it next week. I know...I am a sucker for pain!
