This is a copy of 2 posts I posted on the 'Support Gear' forum which weren't answered.

(1) How is the Ninja Blade as monitor, including outdoors in bright sunlight (with sun shade and mat screen protector) - both in itself and compared to SmallHD 501 or Marshall V-LCD56MDV?

(2) How do the SmallHD 501 and Marshall V-LCD56MDV compare, including outdoors in bright summer sunlight?

Is there any other viable, reasonably priced, alternative for a good on-camera monitor?

Unable to compare the Ninja Blade to the SmallHD 501 or Marshall V-LCD56MDV but my experience with the Ninja Blade in outdoors bright, bright sunlight was a positive experience and the peaking and scopes are really, really good + you get 422 and HQ.
 
SmallHD 500 is a better monitor, just looks and feels better and has the sidefinder options. The smartphone UI is cool. But I'd get the blade as it's a balance between a very close monitor plus a recorder, plus it's heavily discounted. The blade is much better than the Shogun in daylight, it's very good.

I believe it's the best budget monitor option right now, and if one needs a better monitor, stepping up to a SmallHD 7" Bright is the move that makes an appreciable difference (God it's gorgeous)

Since I need both an external recorder and an external monitor, and since my budget is limited right now, and since the Blade is good enough as a monitor - I'll order one today. Later on I may add the SmallHD 7" Bright.
