Atomo HDMI field recorder + Magic lantern?

So i did a little searching and didn't hear much talk about this unit that looks very promising.

http://atomos.com/Ninja/

Back when i first found it Magic Lantern hadn't even been ported to the t2i yet so i moved on but now with ML running very well on the t2i it has made this thing viable again.

It looks great, recording on hot-swappable 2.5" hdds at pro-res in 221mbps in 10 bit.
Is there anybody out there who has tested this device in person? Compared to the h.264 at 50mbps this could really blow away the competition.

The only other solution i know thats close would be the Nanoflash and its price is way above the $999
This one i know works great out of the sony ex line that i've rented but its still a lower bit rate than the ninja.
There are sample clips from the nanoflash here

Anybody out there have experience with these devices and ML?
I would even be interested to see how the footage looks from a consumer camera like the hv30 (i have been using these for a long time with great success but only ever to mini dv).

This product is not for sale yet. It has a large buzz on this site and others. Currently the T2i does not output 1080 while it is recording to internal SD. It also does not display on internal screen when the HDMI or SD outputs are in use. With current technology you would need a HDMI splitter to send the video to a monitor and to the Ninja. You would also have to make sure not to record on the camera itself and not use any on screen display options as they show up on the output.

Yeah. The idea would be to use the HDMI out on the camera, bypassing any recording in camera. Then using Magic Lantern you can turn off all global draw events (thus making the screen a clean output) and record into this box. It obviously would be slightly limiting but no more than hooking up a standard HDMI monitor but has the added benefit of recording a 4:2:2

What about Canon's white box on the screen? Any way to get rid of that without turning autofocus on? Global draw doesn't get rid of it at this point. I could see us cursing that white box.

With the latest build i dont see that. If you hold the shutter half way down you can remove everything.

I build a wired remote in the past that had a button for that equated to a half press of the shutter. This button could be replaced with a switch so the camera would always believe that the shutter button is halfway depressed. Then you turn that off to adjust your exposure and things and turn it on again when your ready to record.

Note:
I could be wrong about a lot of this. I have never worked with this recording device, nor have i ever recorded anything off of HDMI, Ive only ever worked with the Nanoflash.

Have you tried comparing HDMI footage to camera compressed footage with 7D/T2i on the Nanoflash?

Just RTFM on ML and realized that if you go down to "ClrScr: Always" it gives you black bars for 16x9 and nothing else, no white box, nuffin.. There's a flicker to it that's distracting, but other than that it's a killer solution.

Sadly i didn't try that because the Nanoflash only records hd-sdi and i don't have one of those boxes from black magic of Aja that will convert hdmi to Hd-sdi. I was renting the Sony ex and the rental house wanted to try something new with it and since I've been friends with the guys for years they upgraded me with the nanoflash.
