At this point, used GH1 or NIB GH2

Hello,

Im trying to either get GH1 or GH2. As GH1 has been around for awhile (and just discontinued), I was hopping prices of new and used GH1 to go down. It seems even used ones go for $350 (considering $399 NIB). So I am inclined to just get NIB GH2 ($899; i do mostly indoor video and GH2 performs much better than GH1 in lowlight). I guess I wonder if you, pros :), think the used market price will go down on GH1 or the price difference is worth GH2.

Best

Nobody knows. GH series is a niche in a niche market. Small change in demand or supply could affect the market price.

if you are doing alot of indoors, the gh2 will prove a better investment in my opinion. keep in mind, until testers find a stable high bitrate you will still get into codec trouble if there is strobes and flashes involved. get a gh1 if you always have total control over lighting.

It's crazy. Just 3 weeks ago I've seen a new Panasonic GH1 for $399.00 at B&H. A few days after I saw that, B&H discontinued their supply. Amazon used to have the GH1 for $399 and now it's at $450. I saw Adorama. They still have it at $399 but I already bought a used one for $350. The prices are really unpredictable and the price keeps fluctuating...

Adorama still have it for $399??? Can you share the link? - I looked there earlier this week and could not find it :(

Is there technical spec that shows how better GH2 is in low light compared to GH1. I know high ISO on GH2 is more usable -- but does that mean at low ISO (say 800), quality out of GH1 and GH2 are comparable?
I'd appreciate if someone can point me out to any test video that uses the same indoor setting on both GH1 and GH2 to see where (which setting, iso etc) GH2 stands out?

By personal experience, my first GH1 would band realllllyy hard at around 800 is, I would try to keep it a 640 iso max. I have a brand new GH2 witch; 1 never band and 2 doesn't even get grainy? (even at 3200 iso)

I don't know what's up with this camera but I can use iso 3200 without any problem (even tho it is rated 1 stop darker than the GH1, so it's like iso 1600 on a GH1).

Let's just say I gained a least 1 good stop without any grain from going to a GH1 to a GH2. (that and ALOT OF OTHER THINGS)

The fpn was improved but not eliminated, especially on the older bodies. Emory figured out a work around which seemingly unlocks a higher iso but fpn is still there even with the work around on my gh1 hacked with the 100mbps max latitude patch.
