GH2 As a nubie, I'm studying this guy's work - I think it's beautiful

I'm just learning videography (my GH2 just came in today!) I've been studying John Galliver's work on Vimeo and thought I'd share a link here for the benefit of other newbies like myself. The three videos he has posted so far have all been shot using a GH2 with the 20mm pancake and the 14-140mm lenses.

Everything seems so natural and effortless. I love the judicious use of the slider and shallow depth of field techniques. Nothing in the cinematography calls attention to itself or detracts from the message.

Agreed. In his "Whitstable Dream For Sale" I'm observing his use of jump cuts and fades (i guess that's the correct terminology). Seems like he uses a fade whenever he changes locations (although not always - see 0:33) but uses jump cuts between shots within a location. A fade also seems to denote a passage of time too. Trying to figure this stuff out is almost like learning a new language!

Good stuff.

Well... the following are some of his credentials:

- Senior video journalist at BBC News.
- Shoot, edit and produce video features for the BBC News wesbite and other outlets.

I too would love to see more of what he can do with this camera.

That's pretty standard. A fade or a dissolve generally denotes a change in time or location.
