Arri Alexa and RED1 MX comparison

[gunleik]

Hi.

Last fall I did a comparison between the RED1 MX and the Arri Alexa.

Recently I had the time to finnish it.

Hope you enjoy it.

Now that's what I call a camera test. Well done and much appreciated, always good to take as objective of a look as possible when evaluating new technology. Oh and thanks for providing files for us to work with as well great test all around, man do I wish I could afford an alexa, or an MX heck anything above what I'm working with now.... I just can't pay for it... anyone?

[gunleik]

Thanks...

Eh...Transformers was shot on film...

Transformers 3 was shot on F35 and Alexa.

I have done a serious washing of the text.

Hope it is still informative.

Cheers.

Gunleik, just wanted to say thank you for the time expended.
The comparison between these two is really the critical question of the day.
Alexa is the best I feel, but not for long. (in an epic world of hdrx)

I agree that the Alexa has more DR.
I also think the Alexa has a better calibrated monitor path.

As to which is "better", you'll have to judge them on the whole workflow, and I think the answer is more project dependant.

It's not hard to understand the good reasons for choosing either.

This was quite fun, BTW:

I just found this article and was going to post a link to DvX but it had already been done.

Thx for the article, I like reading about stuff I will never own, kind of like reading what it feels like to drive a NISSAN GTR.
