Are we back to mid-January now?

Just got off the phone with ProMax. They met with Panasonic last night and were told not to expect shipment of HVX200s until mid-January now. Piss.

ProMax may not have ordered enough to get in the first batch, and the first batch is probably sold out. So ProMax may have to wait until January, but you can bet that EVS and Birns and Abel and B&H will all have it in December.

Good news. I am number 24 on the waiting list at EVS and still hoping for a December arrival.

No confirmation here, but I've been hearing hints that the 8G P2 cards may be available shortly after the camera....hence the delay.
I can't go into specifics, but 4G bundles look like they will be ready sooner.
No one knows for sure...but wouldn't everyone rather wait for the product to be good and ready, not rushed?

Jan and my rep are still signalling December, and I ask often. I think because we got our order in super early, but who knows. I would personally also like to see a camera be 100% ready before shipping, and I am sure Jan has all our best in mind. It just makes life easier for the shooter (that includes me  )

I completely agree with you, Rush. It would be great to get the camera in December and shoot the Sci-Fi Fest with the HVX, but I'd rather have the camera released from manufacturing when it's truly ready for prime time.

I'm sure there's a lot of pressure to get the camera done and shipped before December 31, but if it misses the deadline because it's not ready, I'm not going to cancel my order.

Panasonic has already proven to me that they make great, QUALITY cameras.

I just remember that 2 or 3 guys that asked here about how certain the release date was, as they want to shoot in january 2006..... I guess these guys didn't think about, that december means: "if you have a preorder"..... and if you haven't, then it's just luck and they might get their camera sometime in spring 2006. The thing is, that these guys didn't look like wanting to preorder, as they were too insecure about the release date... and now this insecurity and missing preorder will just be a GUARANTEE that they will NOT get the camera in december... How ironic!

Hi all,

The HVX200 will start delivery in December with limited quantities. It is on manual allocation. We want to be sure and share the love.

I have to say that I love the fact that everyone is so excited about this camera and you may not realize it but many of you had a hand in its feature set. We were paying attention when we ran down the list of things you wanted in a new DVX, and well some of those made it into the DVX100B and most of them made it into the HVX, except the 2/3" chip and stuff that just couldn't make the price point.

Thanks for being such a great group.

Best,

Jan

Hello all,
I just this early morn. joied the forum, and yes, this is a great group. Also thank you to the moderators and creators of this site. I've been a film dop for 19 years now and the first video camera I used/owned was/is a dvx100a w ananmorphic adapter. My other camera is an arri sr 3 highspeed w canon 11-165. I love the panasonic for sound and interviews and I find the cinemalike format intercuts well with super 16.
I'll be most interested to hear abou the hvx and it's success and/or failures in the realm of film out and large screen projection.
While I learn about the hvx, I hope to be able to answer some questions budding film dops may have.
Again, thanks for setting all this up and have a good day.

THANK YOU Jan for rescuing this thread!

Since I'm on Rush's preorder list, I've got my fingers crossed.

I did get the impression from reading your response that the
initial HVX200 dealer orders will not be complete?

If this is the case, have you heard when the next shipment will be complete
to finish initial dealer orders?

Yes, there's no doubt that Panasonic is listening!

Steve

"limited quantities and manual allocation" could mean anything from a demo unit or two per distributor to gosh knows how many. I'm sure our dealers will rush (no pun intended) to comfort us when they know the facts on the shipments closer to delivery time.

BTW, I no longer recognize Jan as the authority on these matters since Tosh is on the scene. :)

Thanks, I hope so, but it sure sounds like the intitial orders were reduced due to demand or manufacturing.
Hopefully Rush will get his initial preorder list! :)

Like Jan said, she's going to do her best for all dealers. I know I would like to put 6 in my rental department, but I think I will have to settle for less so that more customers can have theirs. Eventually Panasonic will make all our Holiday wishes come true!
