Are these tapes safe to use?

Hey,
After some searching, I've learned that it's best to stick with using Panasonic tapes for my DVX, since mixing tapes can wear down the heads of the camera.

So that being said, I've been looking around at the "usual" stores that carry MiniDV tapes and I can't seem to find any places that even sell Panasonic Mini-DV tapes. They just seem to carry "Maxell," "JVC," and some "Sony" brands. I live in Canada, so I'd rather avoid ordering from an American site since I've been nailed by extra fees when it comes across the border.

So I went onto the Futureshop (it's owned by Bestbuy) website and to my surprise they actually carry this one brand of Panasonic tapes. Anyways, I'm just wondering if these are even the regular "suggested" brand of Panasonic tapes for use with the DVX (the dry lube).

By the way, I know they're pricey!
Thanks!

Yeah i think they will be ok. Almost 100% sure but I always use the high grade professional ones, cause I have about 50 of them left... but be aware that they may be more likely to have dropouts and poor spooling.

You have to ask yourself...Can you risk dropouts, head clog, and possibly unusable video by using lesser quality tapes? What is the video you're shooting worth?
Tapes are something I NEVER scrimp on. I have used the Panasonic AY DVM 63 AMQ for a couple years now and have had great results. The video I shoot is far too valuable to cut corners on tape.
Just my 2 pennies worth...

Be well, all....Jeffro

Thats one thing i liked about film: its all pretty much the same quality (as long as it is fresh or a recan), and dropouts are... non existant. Unless you are a complete idiot and open the door while rolling HAHA!

you should check out Vistek
http://www.vistek.ca/

see if there is any around where you live, if not i think they deliver as well but they have better price and more range of products
Thank you for that link! I checked on there, and they have the exact same tapes as the one that came bundled with the DVX100B. I'll probably buy off of there.
Thank you!

Dude just use PQ's.

If you don't already, what you need to understand is the difference between dry and wet tape. So search for threads on that.

I paid 25$ a box for the AY-DVM63PQ tapes. Each box comes with 5 tapes and it was delivered within 2 days. I live up here in Canada too and used the above Vistek site.

This camera I've got is worth too much to risk on tapes.

The ones you linked to would be fine, but the number one rule is to be consistent. So use whatever is most convenient for you to pick up or have delivered on on a regular basis.

Consistent as in always use panasonic tapes or consistent as in always using the same kind of tape (ex: always using AY-DVM63PQ tapes). I have always used panasonic tapes with my camera but I am not sure if I have used the same kind each time, is that going to cause a problem?
