AC160 Are these gears big enough for AC160 lens?

I'm looking to purchase this follow focus for my DSLR.

I also want to be able to use it on my AC160. I already own a base plate that is big enough for it. The glass on the AC160 is pretty large.
The specs on the follow focus say: 2 adjustable zip lens gears with 2.5" and 4.25" diameter offer flexibility for use with small to big lenses. I'm not sure if that's big enough. I don't own a tape measure nor do I know how to find out diameter of it; I'm terrible with math/geometry. Can anyone help?

Wrap a piece of string around the focus ring and mark the circumference, then divide by 3.14 to get the diameter of the lens.

what am I missing by not having a follow focus? I have managed to get pretty good focus on the AC160 by setting Focus Assist to ON, then, working with the Focus Bar at the bottom left of the screen, I turn the ring until it pushes the green dot to where the red shimmer is at its best. Usually, this means you go too far and the focus bar starts to back away from the green dot toward the left, and my final adjust is to run the bar back just to the left of the green dot.

Is this a proper way to focus?

Am I right in saying no point having a focus assist unless you mount a large LCD on the camera OR does one have nothing to do with the other?

I hardly never use the little pop out LCD. I suppose this is because I do everything off tripod. I can see how a person would want/need the pop out LCD under different circumstances (i.e. hand holding the camera high over your head, doing low angle recordings etc).

I am trying to resist as many add-on's as possible - I need a new tripod, new lights, a cine light meter, where does it all end?

Lots of feedback.. I am not yet sure whether I need follow focus BUT if it turns out I do, then I will follow the advice I received i.e. go for an electronic solution.

Check out this article if you have not yet purchased anything but I suppose if you have already purchased a manual follow focus then do not read the article.
