Are the AVCHD adn MJPEG setting independent?

Hi,
This might have been answered elsewhere but, it's not immediately obvious.

Am I correct in assuming the AVCHD and MJPEG settings can both be implemented at the same time, ie: I can set up mjpeg to shoot 720/24 4:2:2 and AVCHD at a higher bitrate, shorter GOP and switch between them to get those settings?

One doesn't affect the other. You can do both. Mjpeg is having a bit more of experimenting and uncertainty going on with at the moment. Eventually it will all be figured out.

Actually, somebody (I think it was grunf) discovered that setting the Mjpeg Encoder 30fps->Xfps had an effect on AVCHD mode - although exactly what is happening and why is unknown. I confirmed it. So, I wouldnt play with the Mjpeg 24FPS just yet. I think it's not really working anyway (it just skips frames).

I disagree - they are dependent. When i tried the higher mjpeg settings, it also affected my AVCHD performance. These are my notes:

a. 17th version
e1-e4 quality 400, 400, 400, 400
e1-e4 table 24,24,24,24
MJPEG 1289m 420->422 color sampling

VBA 60,000,000
OBA 62,000,000
LBA 70,000,000

720p50 GOP - 5
1080P25 GOP - 5
24/25p Native - unticked

No - mjpeg "write speed" error
No - 1080 same errors
720p more stable

b.16th version

e1-e4 quality 380,330,300,276
e1-e4 table 24,24,24,24

VBA 60,000,000
OBA 62,000,000
LBA 70,000,000

720p50 GOP - 5
1080P25 GOP - 5
24/25p Native - unticked

This works fine in all modes.

However, I am getting some artifacting in 720p mode when the scene is very detailed and high contrast. Atifacts appear in the shadows.

So in conclusion - There is an optimum setting for AVCHD, and pushing MJPEG settings to the max can affect your avchd performance as well.

Again, YMMV (your mileage may vary) but this is my experience - hope it helps!

I noticed this too
