Laptop (via Firewire cable) as external monitor

Using your laptop's (with the help of software) as an external monitor for your HD camera makes sense, right? I mean can't you just hook up a firewire cable during filming while also recording to tape? Isn't that a cheap "HD monitor" solution?

I know that carrying a laptop around isn't very economical or mobile, but that doesn't bother me during shooting. But am I missing something else?

Thanks!

Adobe GoLive is a professional monitoring software that works with virtually all firewire video cameras. PC only (or bootcamp).
