To David G.: within my working experince there are several top notch Zoom lenses for still imaging that are 2.8. The most infamous, however, are signature Nikon zooms. The 80-200/2.8 ED, 17-35/2.8, 14-24/2.8 G and the 24-80/2.8. Canon also has a few in similar focal lengths but I have not been exposed much to L glass.
You will find out swiftly, however, that they are all of a very limited use when dealing with motion picture acquistion not only because of light variables in transmission through the zoom range but focus mechanics, or, mechanical operations in general.
Regardless, they're still fantastic and deserve a glance if you're in the market to pair zooms with an upcoming dslr purchase.
