C300: Archiving footage

I shoot in C-log and have been storing the original c-log files. I wonder what is the best practice.

Creating multiple copies of files for backup and then ensuring that the folders are set as virtual media through canon XF utility is a massive pain. I wonder how you guys store it. Do you convert to Pro Res 422 HQ?

Once I get the C300 Mark II in future, the files will be again of another type. Wonder if converting it to Pro Res would be a better long term strategy.

Why would you convert your footage to ProRes to take up more space for storage with no gain in quality over the original. Is it long term file format support? I think your footage will be considered unfit for broadcast do to increasing standards (like the piles of SD footage I had archived) before I'd worry about mxf codec not being supported.

Usually I have the originals folders on my drive (I edit natively) and after every project I copy them to a redundant raid I have setup for storage. If its a single large project I will dedicate a bare drive to it and place it in a waterproof drive case for storage. I know a few production companies that use tape based storage for long term archiving.

With one G-RAID crashing, I am becoming paranoid.

I was thinking if something crashes and I recover the file, still it won't be usable as I won't be able to read it without the XF utility recognising it. I lost the first footage I shot with the C300 in 2012 because I had simply copied the folder from the card to the hard disk by using the finder in mac. Later the XF utility didn't recognise it. I have no idea if one can somehow use such files.

That is the reason why I was thinking if Pro Res HQ makes sense. To my clients I deliver in Pro Res 422 HQ. I don't give c-log files.
